Saigon Heat players dominate VBA Awards 2023 closing ceremony

The VBA Awards 2023 recognized outstanding individuals in 12 categories, honoring players and coaches from the 2023 season. Notably, Saigon Heat players dominated the awards, winning half of them, including prestigious categories voted on by the professional advisory board.

Kentrell Barkley, the foreign player from the Saigon Heat, was the season’s standout superstar, winning the titles of Most Valuable Player, Dunk of the Year, and Basket of the Year.

The Saigon Heat’s Nguyen Huynh Phu Vinh, the 2.03-meter-tall center, was named Local Player of the Year, while Vo Kim Ban, the explosive guard, received the Favorite Player of the Year award.

Matt Van Pelt, the coach of the Saigon Heat, was honored as the Coach of the Year, being the only coach to secure two consecutive VBA championships.

The Nha Trang Dolphins also had a successful night, winning four awards. Dominique Tham was named the Heritage Player of the Year, and Madarious Gibbs won the Block of the Year. Nguyen Hoang Phuc and Son Minh Tam, both from the Nha Trang Dolphins, received the Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year awards, respectively.

In total, the Saigon Heat and the Nha Trang Dolphins claimed 10 out of the 12 awards at the VBA Awards 2023. The remaining two prizes, Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player, were awarded to John Fields of the Thang Long Warriors and Tran Van Trung of the Ho Chi Minh City Wings, respectively.
