Introduction of Vietnam Agricultural Products to Algeria

The Vietnam Trade Office in Algeria organized an event at the Carrefour Hypermarket in the City Center Mall in Algiers to introduce and promote Vietnam Agricultural Products on December 22. The event aimed to showcase two of Vietnam’s key products – coffee and catfish (tra and basa fish) fillets – to Algerian consumers. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about these Vietnamese products, explore different recipes, and even taste them.

During the event, Vietnamese Trade Counselor in Algeria Hoang Duc Nhuan spoke to consumers, supermarket representatives, and local importers about Vietnam’s aquaculture industry. He mentioned that Vietnam is expected to achieve an aquaculture output of over 9.26 million tonnes in 2023, with an estimated total export turnover of 9.2 billion USD. Notable seafood export items from Vietnam include shrimp (with an export turnover of 3.45 billion USD), catfish (1.9 billion USD), mollusks (0.8 billion USD), and tuna (0.9 billion USD).

According to the Vietnam Association of Seafood Exporters and Producers (VASEP), Vietnam’s tra fish has been exported to more than 140 countries and territories around the world. It has gained popularity in traditional markets as well as demanding markets like the US, the EU, and Japan.

In terms of coffee exports, Vietnam shipped 1.36 million tonnes worth 3.5 billion USD abroad in the first 11 months of this year. The total export is expected to increase as the country enters the 2023-2024 harvest season. Vietnamese coffee is currently available in over 80 countries worldwide.

Algeria is considered a significant market for coffee consumption, importing 130,000 tonnes of coffee beans annually.

The Proud of Vietnamese Agricultural Products event will be held in Hanoi from late December 28 to 31. The event aims to promote the quality of national products and increase their popularity among various communities. It is organized by the Hanoi Promotion Agency on Investment, Trade and Tourism (HPA) and Long Bien District People’s Committee at Long Bien Park.

The event intends to encourage cooperation between Hanoi and other cities/provinces nationwide, promote agricultural and rural tourism in conjunction with the development of new rural areas by 2022-2025, and celebrate the 20th anniversary of the establishment of Long Bien District.

The event provides an opportunity for businesses, cooperatives, and OCOP enterprises in the agricultural sector to connect, network, and gain support. It enables them to find partners for product distribution and obtain market information, services, and policies related to agricultural and rural development at both local and international levels. The event also aims to stimulate the demand for Vietnamese goods at the end of the year and welcome the Year of the Dragon.

The event will feature over 120 booths, including an area dedicated to typical agricultural and rural products from different cities and provinces. It will also showcase processed products, green and high-tech agricultural products, OCOP products, and traditional craft villages from Hanoi and other localities. Additionally, there will be a section highlighting specialties from Long Bien District.

An HPA representative mentioned that the Proud of Vietnamese Agricultural Products event has undergone thorough preparation. It carefully selects typical products, regional specialties, and well-known products from participating localities to make a strong impression on enterprises, organizations, and visitors.

Products with export potential and aesthetically pleasing packaging designs will be chosen to participate in the event. Each booth will be beautifully decorated, and all displayed and sold products must have clear pricing, labels, packaging, and traceability information.

In addition to the exhibition and fair, the event will also feature various sideline activities, including promotional programs, on-site product processing, product trials, cultural exchanges, and art performances.
